LIVING BEYOND OURSELVES
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” – Luke 10:27
Christian Faith is not a noun, not referring to a thing that we can get and set aside. Faith is a verb, referring to our active lifestyle.
“The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” – Galatians 5:6b
Christian faith is best discovered and expressed through relationships.
IN God – Our starting point is discovering God and discovering ourselves in God.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5
WITH Community – Our spiritual relationship we nurture in God inevitably lives itself out in our tangible relationships.
“From [Christ Jesus] the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” – Ephesians 4:15-16
FOR All Peoples – The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news to be shared and witnessed to all peoples, all nations, and all circumstances. God’s blessings are so explosive and overflowing that to be inactive with them will suffocate us. It is more blessed to share than to receive.
“…all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” – Genesis 12:3b
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18b-20
“After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’” – Revelation 7:9-10
We may not change the world but we can change our own lives and surroundings. The things we do, the people we meet, and the circumstances we face, are where we are to live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ every day. Sharing God to all people and in all circumstances begins from our own daily devotion to God and receiving His reconciling and healing love.
“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.’ Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.” – Acts 16:30-32
