This is the third Sunday of lent. Lent is a time when we reflect on what Christ has done for us, re-center on who Christ is in our lives and restore our relationship with Christ.
Our Passage today is from Phil 4:4-9
4 Always be joyful because you belong to the Lord. I will say it again. Be joyful! 5 Let everyone know how gentle you are. The Lord is coming soon. 6 Don’t worry about anything. No matter what happens, tell God about everything. Ask and pray, and give thanks to him. 7 Then God’s peace will watch over your hearts and your minds. He will do this because you belong to Christ Jesus. God’s peace can never be completely understood.
8 Finally, my brothers and sisters, always think about what is true. Think about what is noble, right and pure. Think about what is lovely and worthy of respect. If anything is excellent or worthy of praise, think about those kinds of things. 9 Do what you have learned or received or heard from me. Follow my example. The God who gives peace will be with you.
What you need to do, what to think about and why should we do this?
Last week we looked at being followers of Christ who do not complain or grumble because we are followers of Christ.
This week we will see how God wants us to live as followers of Christ. He wants us to be joyful, to not worry, to talk to God about everything, give thanks and always think good thoughts. When we follow Christ, we must remember that our happiness is not a passive activity. Our happiness is not based on who we are, what we have or what we do. We need to look away from ourselves and look to God. Remember our God is a big God. He made everything in this world. God is in control of this world and He knows everything.
