The Abundance Secret

Rev. Jason Noh

Proverbs 24:1-4

Be not envious of evil men,
nor desire to be with them,
for their hearts devise violence,
and their lips talk of trouble.

By wisdom a house is built,
    and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled
with all precious and pleasant riches.

Opening: God pours out His abundance as we grow in the knowledge of Him.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” (Hosea 4:6)

1. The more we know God, the more fully we can enjoy the life He has given us.

“By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” (v.3-4)

“But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger!’” (Luke 15:17)

2. We need to be restored from a mindset of lack.

“Be not envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them.” (v.1)

A sense of lack vs. A sense of abundance

“He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.” (Matthew 25:24-25)

“One of the greatest obstacles to success is not outside of us, but within us—the negative thoughts, fear, and self-doubt that take root in our minds.” (Napoleon Hill)

3. Jesus came to give us abundant life.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9)

Closing: God’s Word contains abundant seeds of blessing.
