Heart Detox #10: By the Power of the Gospel

1.      CROSS CHART

From The Gospel-Centered Life by Robert Thune and Will Walker

2.      THE GOSPEL-IDENTITY

a.    Be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1-2)

b.    But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. (Ephesians 5:3)

c.      “FOR BELIEVERS, SIN IS AN ACT OF BETRAYAL AGAINST THEIR NEW IDENTITY. FOR UNBELIEVERS, SIN IS AN ACT IN KEEPING WITH THEIR CURRENT IDENTITY.” (Michael Emlet)

3.     THE GOSPEL-DISCIPLESHIP

a.    But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints. Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. (Ephesians 5:3-6)

b.    For by a single offering, he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. (Hebrews 10:14)

c.     And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

d.    to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:22-24)
