“Holy Ambition” - Luke 19:11-27

  • Maintaining vs. Movement

  • Surviving vs. Thriving

1. Holy ambition is all about God’s kingdom.

  • “And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:28)

  • “The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone forces his way into it.” (Luke 16:16)

  • “The kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.” (Matthew 11:12)

  • “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (v.10)

2. The cross is the climax of holy ambition.

  • “For I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man. You take what you did not deposit, and reap wht you did not sow.” (v.21)

  • “But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’” (v.14)

3. Jesus entrusts with more to those who have holy ambition.

  • “And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’” (v.24-25)

  • “And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities… And you are to be over five cities.’” (v.17-19)

  • “I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.” (v.26)
