“Marketplace Wisdom” - Proverbs 10:2-16

1. Recognizing how sin affected the workplace.

  • “The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin.” (v.16)

  • Sacred job vs. Secular job

  • “And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” (Genesis 2:2, 15)

  • “So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:17)

  • “Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.” (v.2-3)

2. Bearing fruit in the workplace.

  • “A rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin.” (v.15)

  • “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.” (v.4-5)

3. Seeing our workplace as mission fields.

  • 10/40 window, 4 to 14 window, 9 to 5 window

  • “I believe one of the next great moves of God is going to be through the believers in the workplace.” (Billy Graham)

  • “Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, not by the way of eye-service, as people pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man.” (Ephesians 6:5-7)
