“Parenting Wisdom” - Proverbs 22:6-21

 
 
  • “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (v.6)

1. Experiencing God’s blessings through parenting

  • “And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’” (Genesis 1:28)

  • “Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.” (Proverbs 17:6)

2. Bearing fruit through consistency between discipline and discipleship.

  • “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.” (v.15)

  • “To make you know what is right and true, that you may give a true answer to those who sent you?” (v.21)

  • Raising Children through Discipleship & Discipline

3. Calling us to apply God’s goodness through parenting

  • “The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.” (Elie Wiesel, the late Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate)   

  • “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail. Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.” (v.7-9)
