Give Us Our Daily Bread

Matthew 6:11

Rev. Jason Noh

Opening: Jesus came to us as the bread of life.

The petition of asking for the daily bread is the most essential part of the Lord’s prayer.” (Ernst Lohmeyer)

What we eat determines who we are.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (John 6:51)

The meaning of the “daily” (epiousios).

St. Basil’s Catholic Church in L.A.

God provides daily bread to ‘us’ through ‘us’.

‘Disposable Income’

If a brother or a sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?” (James 2:15-16)

Closing: The fullness of life is through God’s daily provision.
