Overcoming Tough Challenges
SUNDAY Worship Service: AUGUST 4, 2024
OVERCOMING TOUGH CHALLENGES
Rev. Jason Noh
Opening: We face tough challenges when we serve people.
“And because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were
tentmakers by trade.” (v.3)
“Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord, together with his entire
household. And many of the Corinthians hearing Paul believed and were baptized… And he
stayed a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.” (v.8-11)
1. Life is full of obstacles.
The 15 invaluable laws of growth (John Maxwell)
8 Growth Gap Traps
1) The assumption gap
“No wind favors him who has no destined port.” (Michael De Montaigne)
2) The knowledge gap
“If you are clear with what you want, the world responds with clarity.” (Loretta Staples)
3) The timing gap
The Law of Diminishing Intent
4) The mistake gap
“A mistake is simply another way of doing things.” (Warren Bennis)
5) The perfection gap
6) The inspiration gap
7) The comparison gap
8) The expectation gap
2. Where people are, challenges always follow.
“For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarrelling among you, my
brothers.” (1 Corinthians 1:11)
Leadership and authority
Doctrine
Sexual issues
Financial issues
Spiritual gifts and positional issues
3. The cross has the power to break through challenges.
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved
it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)
Restoring or destroying?
Edifying or stumbling?
God’s will or my will?
Closing: When we take up the cross and follow Jesus, we also experience God’s grace of resolving tough challenges.
