Truth Begins With Me

Rev. Charles Lee

Matthew 7:1-6

“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother or sister's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother or sister, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother or sister's eye. 6 “Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.

What do you do when you see something wrong in another person?

  1. Go and tell them directly and immediately.

  2. Don’t do anything. Mind your own business.

  3. Tell others about them.

  4. Pray to God that He will work on them.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:1-2)

“Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.” (John 7:24 )

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.” (Matthew 7:1-2)

For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13)

“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother or sister's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother or sister, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother or sister's eye.” (Matthew 7:3-5)

7 A’s of a Confession
(Ken Sande, The Peacemaker)

1. Address everyone involved

2. Avoid “if, but, and maybe”

3. Admit specifically

4. Acknowledge the hurt

5. Accept the consequences

6. Alter your behavior

7. Ask for forgiveness

"Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.” (Proverbs 19:11)

“Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.” (Matthew 7:6)

Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury. Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you; reprove a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. (Proverbs 9:7-9)

What do you do when you see something wrong in another person?
