The Wonder of Being with God

Passage: Deuteronomy 4.32-39; Acts 4.13

Date: May 14, 2023

As we progress in this sermon series, it is critical that we lay down a strong foundation. At the first layer is our identity in Jesus Christ. In today's sermon, the next layer is our relationship with God. For us to mature in our relationship with God, our attitude and perspective must be corrected. It is only then that we have the foundation to be able to be a part of God's mission.

The first attitude that we must have is one of humility.  In both Deuteronomy 4 and Acts 4, God's people were weak, fragile, and poor. In fact, this is consistent throughout Scripture and even in our own experiences. However, we sadly forget how undeserving we are of God's grace and how much we are dependent upon him.

The second attitude is one of wonder and awe. We too easily forget what a privilege it is that we are God's people. In both passages, it is unthinkable that such a holy, grand, and powerful God would be so loving, patient, faithful, and concerned with sinners like us. This relationship is truly a miracle and it is only made possible because of the death, resurrection, and life of Christ.

As these two attitudes increase in our lives, we conform to the image of Christ. More specifically, we naturally develop a desire to live according to God's ways. This then results in boldness so that we can be astonishing witnesses to this world for God's mission.
