Rose of Sharon (Ros)

Rose of Sharon is a culturally designated long-term care (LTC) home for Korean seniors. It is a 12-storey building near Bathurst St. and St. Claire Ave., comprised of a 60-bed long-term care (LTC) facility along with 90 life-lease senior apartment units. It provides culturally appropriate care (e.g. programming, food, language) for Korean seniors and is the only LTC facility of its kind in Canada. Currently the ROS is the most sought after LTC facility among Korean families and has a waiting list of 150 Korean seniors.

Arirang Age-Friendly Community Centre

AAFCC was formed in 2013 with a health care mandate for Korean seniors. It is a CRS-registered, non-profit organization. It recently secured an assignment of the purchase and sale agreement and was designated as the bidder for ROS given its vision to build age-friendly communities for Korean Canadian seniors in Canada. AAFCC is fundraising towards the goal of $4.5 million by May 31, 2021 to be able to fully purchase the LTC home so that it can continue to serve the Korean community. Currently $2.5 million (including the initial purchase deposit) has been raised. Donations will go towards the settlement of the purchase price, working capital, closing costs and mortgage financing.

LPC/NHF Involvement

LPC’s Korean Ministry, along with our English Ministry, NHF, will be contributing to AAFCC’s fundraising campaign, with the goal of contributing $150,000 by Sunday, May 30. ROS is an important community resource to LPC/NHF as a large portion of our church is Korean-Canadian, with seniors who are currently at ROS, and with members whose aging parents will eventually hope to reside at ROS. Participate in the fundraising efforts by donating through our online giving platform (button below)
