Rest Up
Rev. Jason Noh
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
notes
Rest Up (Matthew 11:28-30)
God provides restoration and newness through resting.
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (v.28)
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30, MSG)
Come to me → Rest → Walk and work with me

“Learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (v.29 b)
“It is an old and ironic habit of human beings to run faster when we have lost our way.” (Roller May)
“The Sabbath is not a running away from problems, but the opportunity to receive grace to face them” (Marva Dawn)
T – Trusting in God
“On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none.” (Exodus 16:27)
“In God we trust.”
“The spiritual rest which God especially intends in this commandment (to keep the Sabbath holy) is that we not only cease from our labor and trade but much more – that we let God alone work in us and that in all our powers do we do nothing of our own” (Martin Luther)
Rest is the foundation of creativity.
