Jesus, the True Peace
Rev. Jason Noh
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
Opening: Jesus Christ came as the True Peace.
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (v.14)
Jesus Redefining True Peace.
“She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21)
Jesus Restoring True Peace.
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen the glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
Grace & Truth
Grace vs. Truth
“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” (v.10)
“And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.” (Ephesians 2:17)
“As shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.” (Ephesians 6:15)
“The absence of any conflict we must face and overcome only means that we are surrounded by people who are comfortable and like-minded. If that is the case, then there is no true peace, no experience of becoming a new creation in Christ. There is no genuine faith, no true sense of being the Church, and in the end, it becomes a place where no trace of Christ can be found.” (Marcus Barth)
Closing: Only in Jesus do we experience overflowing fullness of peace.
