“Emotional Wisdom” - Proverbs 4:20-27; 17:20-28
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (4:23)
“Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.” (4:24)
1. Understanding our own emotions.
“Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32)
“Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.” (17:27-28)
2. Sanctifying our emotions.
“A man of crooked heart does not discover good, and one with a dishonest tongue falls into calamity.” (17:20)
“A foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her who bore him.” (17:25)
“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24)
3. Building up healthy emotions.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is anything excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.” (Colossians 3:15)
