Called out for God’s Mission #7: PEOPLE WHO KNOW THE ONE LIVING GOD AND SAVIOR
Rev. Jason Noh
OPENING: Knowing God is the strength of life.
“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3)
“Coming to know God could be exhilarating or devastating, depending on the state of your life when the encounter takes place.” (Christopher Wright)
1. Knowing God is the beginning of spiritual journey.
Knowing God (J. I. Packer)
“Did any people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and still live? Or has any god ever attempted to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, and by war, by a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and by great deeds of terror, all of which the Lord you God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?” (v.33-34)
“And because he loved your fathers and chose their offspring after them and brought you out of Egypt with his own presence, by his great power” (v.37)
2. Living out the knowledge of God leads to spiritual growth.
“Out of heaven he let you hear his voice, that he might discipline you. And on earth he let you see his great fire, and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.” (v.36)
“We’re all theologians. We all ‘do’ theology everyday, making decisions based on what we believe is true.” (Darryl Dash, How to Grow)
3. Making God known is the essence of missional life.
“To you it was shown, that you might now that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him.” (v.35)
“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.” (Philippians 3:8)
CLOSING: Knowing God is the greatest reward.
