Called out for God’s Mission #8: PEOPLE WHO PROCLAIM THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST

Isaiah 52:7-10, Mark 1:14-15

OPENING: Missional life is sharing the good news to the world which is full of bad news.

1. UNDERSTANDING THE ESSENCE OF THE GOSPEL.

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’” (v.7)

Good News – ‘basar

‘God reigns’ (v.7)

“The voice of your watchmen – they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.” (v.8)

“The Lord has bared his holy arm before the eyes of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.” (v.10)

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)

2.      DISCERNING THE STUMBLING BLOCKS OF THE GOSPEL.

“Just as Jesus was crucified between two thieves, so the gospel is ever crucified between these two errors.” (Tertullian)

Religion & Irreligion

“The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” (Mark 1:1)

“Against the world; for the world.” (St. Athanasius)

 3.      REVEALING THE RESULTS OF THE GOSPEL.

“Break forth together into singing, you waste places of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people; he has redeemed Jerusalem.” (v.9)

“We are saved by faith alone but not by a faith that remains alone.” (Martin Luther)


CLOSING: God’s kingdom is revealed wherever the people of God reside.
