Called out for God’s Mission #9: PEOPLE WHO Are Sent
Rev. Charles Lee
1. GOD IS A SENDING GOD; WE ARE HIS SENT PEOPLE.
a. God the Father sends the Son.
i. For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:17)
ii. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. (John 6:38)
b. God the Son and the Father sends the Spirit.
i. When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me. (John 15:26)
c. God sends his people; we are his sent people.
i. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” (John 20:21)
2. GOD SENDS HIS PEOPLE WITH A PURPOSE.
a. Revelation
i. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3)
ii. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. (John 12:45)
b. Restoration
i. For the Son of Man came to find and restore the lost.” (Luke 19:10)
ii. For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:17)
c. So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. So it was not you who sent me here, but God. (Genesis 45:4-8)
3. GOD SENDS US WITH HIS PEACE, PRESENCE AND POWER.
a. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
