“Joy of Pursuing Wisdom” - Proverbs 3:1-17

 
 
  • “The heart knows its own bitterness, and no stranger shares its joy.” (Proverbs 14:10)

  • “For length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.” (v.2)

1. Enjoying God’s protection through pausing. 

  • “My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments.” (v.1)

2. Enjoying God’s guidance through asking. 

  • “In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.” (v.6-7)

  • “Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” (Proverbs 2:2-5)

  • “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” (v.5)

  • “Wisdom is to see things through as many other eyes as possible, through the Word of God and through the eyes of your friends, of people from other races, classes, and political viewpoints, and of your critics.” (Tim Keller)

  • “And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord, He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disput3es by what his ears hear.” (Isaiah 11:2-3)

  • Length of days and years of life would be added (v.2), peace would be granted (v.2)

  • Finding favor and success (v.4)

  • Healing of the flesh (v.8), Barns would be filled with plenty and bursting with wine (v.10)
