“Navigating Life with Proverbs” - Proverbs 1:1-7

 
 
  1. God provides wisdom for life (vv.1, 6)

    • “The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel” (v.1)

    • “To understand a proverb and a saying [parable], the words of the wise and their riddles(v.6)

    • “The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel” (v.1)

    • “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and mightthe Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:1-2)

  2.  God beautifies our lives with his wisdom (vv.2-5)

    • “To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight… to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth” (vv.2, 4).

    • “To receive instruction in wise dealingin righteousness, justice and equity (v.3).

    • “To give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth” (v.4).

    • “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance” (v.5)

    • “To know wisdom and INSTRUCTION… to receive INSTRUCTION in wise dealing… fools despise wisdom and INSTRUCTION (vv. 1, 3, 7)

  3.  We begin to have wisdom by “the fear of the LORD” (v.7)

  • “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and knowledge” (v.7)
