“Running with the big picture in mind” - Hebrews 2:5-18

“Running the Race Together” series, message #3

Hebrews 2:5-18

“How shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard.” (2:3)

1. Jesus is the founder of salvation.

“For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.” (v.10)

“Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.” (Psalm 8:5)

2. The purpose of salvation is to live out salvation.

a. Living out freedom.

“And deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.” (v.15)

b. Living out holiness.

“For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source.” (v.11)

c. Living as heirs.

“Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?” (1:14)

3. The final victory is in Jesus.

“For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (v.18)

“And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5)
