THE GOSPEL THAT GOES AFTER THE HEART

Mark 7:1-23

Rev. Charles Lee

When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash (Mark 7:4)

And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “This people honor me with their lips, but heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”  (Mark 7:7-8; cf. Isaiah 29:13)

There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him. (Mark 7:15)

And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him.  For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” (Mark 7:20-23)

For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh. (Romans 8:3)

For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4)

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (Ezekiel 36:25-27)
