Christ Prepares Us for More of Christ

Luke 3.4-14

One of the things that God has been reminding us at Uptown is how the gospel of Jesus Christ transforms every aspect of reality. This is a wonderful thing because sin has impaired every aspect of reality. Therefore, the gospel is redeeming all that is wrong in our lives and in the world. The following sermon series will explore different ways that the gospel is reversing the curse of sin as we reflect upon the Gospel of Luke.

The first sermon will focus on how we need to be prepared in order to respond appropriately to Christ. This was the purpose of John the Baptist. He was to prepare the way for Christ. Preparing for Christ involves repentance and love for others. In other words, both our relationships with God and with others must be rectified.

But, as we have been reminded continually, it is important to know that this preparation is not ultimately up to us. It is Christ himself who prepares us for more of Christ. Specifically at Uptown, the Spirit of Christ has been preparing us, especially during the lockdown. Repeatedly, he has been wooing us to have a more repentant mentality so that we can be humble and loving toward others. Consequently, we will be able to experience more of Christ and be more like Christ to those in and out of our church community!
