Weary and Stupid, but Rooted in Christ
Proverbs 30.1-9
Many of us have suffered the accumulated stress from this prolonged lockdown. Various studies have called this the "pandemic burnout." As work-life balance is even more difficult to achieve when working from home, especially as children are also at home for school, the majority of our society feels utterly worn out.
Recent events have also reminded us of the limitations of the human intellect. Many of our predictions have proven to be false. Even at a personal level, we continually make foolish decisions and regretful choices.
The weariness and stupidity of humanity is nothing new. Proverbs 30.1-4 make it clear that life can be marked by weariness and stupidity. But praise God that though we cannot trust in ourselves, the Word of God is reliable. God seeks to help those who trust in him.
What is so special about the Word of God? There are a few reasons, but the one that will be the focus of today is how the Word reveals to us the character of God and how he interacts with us. More specifically, we will reflect upon how God provisions are perfect: they are not too much (lest we forget him) and they are not too little (lest we covet).
