Outflowing
Rev. Jason Noh
7 It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, 8 but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations
Opening: God wants our lives from overflowing to outflowing.
Our theme for this year is ‘Overflowing.’ However, overflowing by itself is not enough. It must flow outward.
What is the difference between ‘overflowing’ and ‘outflowing’?
God’s purpose and calling for Israel were never meant to end with Israel itself. They were always missional in purpose. In the same way, God did not choose us to enjoy His love and provision just for ourselves.
Then how do we become an outflowing church?
Outflowing requires outward direction.
Why did God deliver the Israelites?
“That the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” (v.8b)
By delivering the Israelites, God intended to reveal His glory and bring restoration to the nations… God’s intention was never solely to benefit Israel, but to bless the nations through Israel as a royal priesthood. In the same way, the Holy Spirit fills us so that He may send us outward to become a blessing to others.
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.” (v.9)
God’s outflowing grace and the power of the Gospel extend from generation to generation—even to a thousand generations.
Outflowing comes through brokenness.
“It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples.” (v.7)
The Israelites were not chosen because they were better than the other nations, but to reveal God’s power through their weakness.
The question for us is this: Are we willing to deny ourselves and remain humble so that God can use us? Are we willing to obey Him for the sake of growth and remain open to the changes He desires to make in us?
The chrysalis factor – It describes the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. This transition involves suffering, but it is necessary for the next stage of growth.
A breakout church is a church that God uses for the outbreak of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Closing: God uses a gospel-centered church to bring about a powerful outbreak of the gospel.
