Jesus, the Light of Truth

OPENING: Jesus came as the light into the world.

The Children of Light vs. The Children of Darkness

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (1:4-5)

“The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” (1:9)

“And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (1:14)

“Pilate said to him, ‘What is truth?’” (v.38)

1.      THE LIGHT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

“I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret.” (v.20)

“Then Pilate said to him, ‘So you are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world – to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.’” (v.37)

“Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said.” (v.21)

“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.” (15:26)

2.      THE LIGHT OF FREEDOM.

“Annas then sent him, bound to Caiaphas the high priest.” (v.24)

“Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas” (v.28)

“The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.” (v.19)

3.      THE LIGHT OF HOLINESS

“My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (v.36)

Closing: The children of Light are called to make impact through everyday life.
